Biography

Oklahoma native Mary Jones moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with her husband Fred Jones and, for twenty years, served as director of Fred Jones Industries in eleven states. Her many civic activities included the YWCA, Junior League, Oklahoma City Arts Center, and the Oklahoma City Zoological Association. She was awarded an honorary degree in Humanities from Oklahoma City University. She made possible the Fred Jones, Jr., Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO.

Fun fact

Mary Jones received OU’s Distinguished Service Citation in 1987 and became the first woman to receive the OU College of Medicine Alumni Association Dean’s Award in 1988.
