Driving through the entrance to Woolaroc, the Frank Phillips Ranch near Bartlesville, OK, is a step back in time. Today it is a game preserve and museum, bequeathed by Oklahoma oil man Frank Phillips to America. The tale of Woolaroc is a microcosm of a world , now slipped just past us, of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. I was a place where the wildcatters, tycoons, and Osage Chiefs met big Eastern high finance and international socialites. It was a place of rousing parties, humor, personal satisfaction, and warmth. It was also a place of struggle, drama, and disappointment.
